Of David Day’s three Tolkenian guides, this one is probably the least – that is to say, you probably want to buy it with at least one of the others I would recommend all three, because they are very pretty and imminently handy for cross-reference. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was purchased as a gift.

Although there are movies to give visuals, and tons of books about Tolkien’s beloved fantasy world, the Tolkien Bestiary stands out to me. Otherwise, this was a good purchase.

This is a joyfully detailed guide to the world of J. David Day did a fantastic job with the in depth summarizing of the entries.
I think every home should have one. Tolkien created an entire fantasy world-complete with its own history, languages, geography, and literature.

I’ve read nearly all of Tolkien’s works repeatedly, and am very much a Tolkien enthusiast and “Lord of the Rings geek” and I think this book is wonderful! The lowest-priced item that has been used or worn previously. The writing style was your typical, This got three stars mostly because I love Tolkien in an irrepressible, nostalgic way.

But the illustrations, created by various artists from across the fantasy art spectrum, is what drew me in. And reading about the beginning of it all has made me decide that this year will be the year I read the Simarillion!
I bought this book many years ago, mostly out of idle interest. This used copy is Perfect it jest look old and faded nicely and intact well thank you for letting me gt this at a great price the cover is paper and not shinny, and it faded to a nice beige color very antique and nice looking!!
Never gets tedious and the one should read it every month or so. This book is only published in Britian. That said, it’s incredibly handy for looking up the name of that one character that may also be the same as that other character because everyone has at least six names and you can’t remember exactly which one they were using at the time of this particular world-shaping catastrophe.
It also contains details about Tolkien’s friends and colleagues, the writers and thinkers who influenced his work, summaries of his beliefs and how they are revealed in his writing, and a handy list of Tolkien’s works.
Much was the same with me, when this was pulled from a cramped shelf of Choral binders.
