Description
The property is part of the National Apennine Park system, located in the center of the Apuan Mountains above the town of Seravezza and 20 minutes from Forte Dei Marmi. There is a view of the Tyrannian Sea and across the ravine is an abandoned quarry and below a palace which was owned by the Medici, who at the time controlled all of the region from Lucca to Seravezza. The curved road below the property, running from Forte Dei Marmi into the mountains, was built by Michelangelo to reach Mt Altissimo which is several kilometers east of the property. As patrons of Michelangelo, the Medici insisted, rather than use the Carrara marble which he used much of his career, that he use the marble from their quarry. The entire property is a terraced landscape, surrounded by woodlands and chestnut trees, including approximately 140 olive trees, fig trees and miscellaneous fruit trees.
The house is a restored and renovated farmhouse which sites at the top of a terraced garden extending downwards into a picturesque vineyard. In addition, there is a stone cantina and a wooden shed.
Condition
The farmhouse is beautifully and carefully restored authentically in accordance with the history of the building and the region's strict codes. The two storied house restoration included a new roof, thermal pane windows, electric, hot water heating and plumbing. The ground floor consists of a kitchen large enough to dine in with a double door opening directly onto the terrace. Adjacent to the kitchen is a convenient storeroom and laundry room. From the kitchen is the dining room then an ample, comfortable lounge with fireplace, and completing the downstairs a library. Each of these rooms, with the exception of the library, has both windows and double doors that open directly onto the terrace.
The second floor sleeping quarters are found in two distinct annexes with independent access, one from the kitchen area and one from the lounge area. This makes the house ideal for hosting guests with the utmost privacy. There are two generous bedrooms in each annex, and a total of three bathrooms between the two annexes.
The sale would include all furnishings with perhaps 2 - 3 exceptions, including many pieces in chestnut wood which were made by the former owner.
